Due to my increased boredom and need to feel like this blog should perform some kind of service to it's readers (all one of them) I have decided to start including a review of some of the roads I travel on my Bonneville here in Metro Atlanta. The first in this series will be the perennial favorite amongst locals; Georgia 400. While this 50+ mile stretch of autobahn could really have it's own dedicated website I will do my best to relay my thoughts on this paved artery through the coming weeks and months.

To quote one of my good friends stuck in morning rush hour, "400? shouldn't this be like 150?" .

...guess you had to be there.

Open Face Reflections

I'm wishing now someone told me the truth about open face helmets. Don't get me wrong if your going to ride a classic style cruiser it's almost a must - and the Davida Classic Jet certainly offers more protection then your typical retro helmet on the market, yet looks aside, I have a few points you may want to consider after 2200 miles of experience in 8 weeks.

1. Get googles - you'll need them, sunglasses are useless over 40 MPH.

2. Get a strap buckle - saves some time, most importantly could save your life.

3. Get use to all the extra protein you be ingesting due to flying insects.

4. Even a slight rain feels like bb pellets at 30 MPH.

5. Hopefully you enjoy the subtle, yet tart flavoring of windshield washing fluid and the smoky flavor of cigarette ash.

Again, those are some serious negatives to consider and truthfully they don't bother me all that much but as the winter approaches I may reconsider...

1900 Mile Cam Seal Leak

Minor weeping from what looks like the seal area - not sure 100% . I am now at 2200 miles and will get it in for a warranty repair next week. Additionally the hand brake no longer illuminates the brake light when squeezed, still having irratic idle issues (cutouts) and I have started to notice a slight vibration from the underside of the bike when experiencing downforce in a turn - not a shimmy, more of a strange uneven wobble...


*Began noticing the leak at 1900 miles - Will return to dealership for that and other items, updates to follow...

What do ya got on that there bike buddy?

If you didn't know already the Bonneville while adequate and fun to look at it in it's stock form begs for the myriad of upgrades you can locate via the web. Personally I spent a good 8 weeks visting forums and searching the web for aftermarket swaps. The biggest help was looking at other Bonnevilles to get a good idea of what I wanted, what made the bike safer and what made the bike look cool of course!

I knew right away the stock pipes had to go - great look but no balls what-so-ever, probably the best decision I have made so far. Not only do my D&D's sound fantasic, they really put cars on notice that I'm there. Besides, it's fun to tweak the throttle next to some yuppy scum hanging in my neighborhood...muh ha ha!



After the pipes I upgraded to the MUCH cooler sixty8 badges and tank pad - upgraded the horn and just this past weekend switched to SuperBars and Napoleon Bar End Mirrors. Those Mickey Mouse rearview mirrors and lame handle bars had to go period.

I started this blog as a reference point for those who might consider the purchase of Triumph's Modern Classic Line, granted the Thruxton, Bonneville and Scrambler are all unique while sharing many similar qualities, this blog will focus mainly on my 2007 Bonnieville Black and my experiences as a daily driver in Atlanta,GA. My hope is to educate and hopefully entertain anyone who happens to drop by.
